Nossem Consulting
Specializing in Human Resources and Common Sense
My name is Tom Nossem and "by trade" I'm a Human Resources professional. I worked in Leo Burnett Company's (one of the largest global communications services firms in the world) Human Resources function for 22 years, beginning in 1977. Through a combination of talent, hard work and a little luck, I moved up quickly and was put in charge of Burnett's human resources department at the tender age of 27. Though none of my predecessors held the position for longer than 5 years, I ran human resources for Burnett for 17 years. I left Burnett as their Senior Vice President and Director of Worldwide Human Resources.
Though I was known as an excellent manager and leader, part of the Burnett culture is that everyone, and I mean everyone, is expected roll up his or her sleeves and be an individual contributor as well. Even when I was put in charge of Burnett's global human resources function, I actively (and personally) handled employee relations, recruiting, compensation and benefits issues. I developed and wrote employment policies and was a "ghost writer" for many of Burnett's top executives. In fact, my interest in website design started at Burnett when they needed a HR site developed for the new company intranet. I delegated the project to myself. Net, I have always been very "hands-on" and wouldn't have it any other way.
Burnett was (and is) a great company and I had a terrific run there. However, it's the kind of place that fosters a certain amount of "workaholism," and since I loved what I was doing, I caught a pretty bad case. While this was good for my career, it became all too clear that I was short-changing my family. In 1999, I decided to take what you might call a "family sabbatical." Consulting was great way to maintain a better work-life balance.
As a human resources consultant, I'm willing and able to tackle just about any human resources issue your company may have. In 2004, I began what was to be a five-month assignment at Joyce Bros. Storage and Van where I was given the task of reviewing everything they did in the HR world. I did this, creating solid documentation along the way. They liked my work and 3+ years later, they keep finding things for me to do. I've helped them successfully get through a Department of Labor audit, redesigned their sales compensation plan, reviewed and revised their sales-operations process, assisted them in their employee selection process and served as a member of their labor negotiating team. I also designed a 360 degree performance feedback system for them.
I'll do whatever it takes to help you and your business.
